At some point in our lives, all of us will need health care - that's why I've led the campaigns to invest in our local services.
When we need health care, we want it to be good quality care in a flexible and clean environment. Personally, I have two young children and my mother still lives in Harrow, so having an excellent health system matters to me.
As your Member of Parliament, I’ve championed the improvement in our local NHS. Since first elected, I secured the construction of Walk-in Centres like Alexandra Avenue and Belmont, often against Conservative opposition, which both provide good quality, flexible care. We also slashed the waiting times for patients at Northwick Park Hospital and saw a huge increase in the number of doctors and nurses.
Since 2010, we’ve seen the Conservatives put all this at risk, with threats of closure to our walk-in centres, waiting times creeping up at Northwick Park Hospital and Harrow receiving the lowest NHS funding per person in London. In February, we had the longest waiting times at Northwick Park of any hospital in the country.
On top of this, the local Walk-in Centres will be put up to tender next year and are at risk of being privatised to a major corporation, rather than being run by local doctors.
That’s why I invite you to join ‘Friends of Alexandra Avenue’. We need to join together to defend our walk-in centres. The Conservatives want a blank cheque to get away with it, but with your support we can stand together as Harrow against privatisation.
I’ll always be your champion for Harrow and if re-elected I’ll fight Harrow’s corner against a Conservative government determined to undermine our NHS.
