The Metropolitan Police, because of funding cuts are considering merging Harrow Police with police in Barnet and Brent to save money. All three boroughs have very different police needs and crime levels and the merger could result in police being used out of Harrow more often.
Gareth Thomas MP has raised these concerns in Parliament, you can read his speech here, in particular he is worried that such a merger could see the end of a visible and experienced commander for Harrow. Navin Shah, Assembly Member for Harrow and Brent, recently called the plans a "ridiculous proposition", you can read his article in the Harrow Times here.
Merging Harrow with Brent and Barnet could call into question the future of Harrow Police Station and where other Harrow Police resources are based in the future. In particular, Harrow could lose its Borough Commander.
Gareth Thomas and Harrow Labour call on the Boris Johnson and the Metropolitan Police to rethink these plans and to keep a visible, local police command in Harrow.
I support Harrow Labour's call to cut crime, not coppers and to protect Harrow Police command
