Gareth Thomas MP specially commended at National Charity Awards
Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, has been specially commended in the category of Political Supporter of the year at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards. Mr Thomas was presented with a certificate on Monday 4th November in the House of Commons by Simon Dyson MBE, Chairman of Anthony Nolan Trustees.
The Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards recognise those individuals who have provided exceptional support for the blood cancer charity over the last year.
Mr Thomas has provided support for the charity by writing to head teachers in his local area to promote Anthony Nolan’s education programme Register and Be a Lifesaver (R&Be). R&Be educates sixth form students about the importance of blood, organ, and bone marrow donation. Earlier this year Mr Thomas attended a R&Be presentation at Whitmore School in his constituency.
Mr Thomas said:
“I’m delighted to receive this award from the Anthony Nolan Trust in recognition of the work carried out in my constituency to educate young people on the importance of blood, organ, and bone marrow donation. It’s been a pleasure to work with the Anthony Nolan Trust on such an important issue.”
Henny Braund, Chief Executive at Anthony Nolan, said:
“Education about blood, organ, and bone marrow donation is the key to ensuring that future patients will have access to a lifesaving transplant or blood transfusion. Gareth’s support for Anthony Nolan has been incredible and has enabled us to reach more schools and students in Harrow West. We are so grateful for all of his support and are delighted that he has been specially commended in this category.”
