Harrow Commuters Hit By More Tube Fare Increases
Boris Johnson has this morning announced tube fare rises for January 2014. After pressure from Labour Party activists, campaigning against ‘the Great Tory Train Robbery’ the announcement today of a real term freeze on some fares provides limited relief for the many Londoners who are struggling with the cost of living crisis.
However after five years of inflation busting fare rises under Boris, there is disappointment that Boris hasn't rolled out a real term freeze across all pay as you go and travelcard fares, with many Harrow commuters now facing yet another inflation busting fare rise.
Gareth Thomas MP, MP for Harrow West, said:
“Claims today of a tube fare 'freeze' are just another Boris con. We’ve seen fares soar since Boris Johnson became Mayor of London – up 60% in some areas. London has the most expensive commuter fares in Europe, but next year commuters will get hit again, with travelcards set to rise above inflation.”
